I chanced upon this book at a garage sale, and being a violinist myself, I had to read it. Catherine Drinker Bowen describes the life of an amateur musician with such wonder in her voice! Taught at an early age that fiddles and babies don't mix, she plowed ahead with both throughout her life with other like-minded musicians. This is a delightful tale of fiddling opticians, wives AT a viola, fellow lawyers who play the cello, and a musical family that truly believes in the motto "a family that plays together, stays together". I'm hoping to find friends and fiddlers like that myself today...she truly is an inspiration to all us fiddlers.
